WELLINGTON -January 29, 2016 – The Floridian Community Bank Night Riders, with a combination of skill and flair, rallied to capture top honors in the opening qualifying round of the annual Floridian Community Bank “Buck Off” to benefit Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center Thursday night at White Horse Fashion Cuisine.
The Night Riders, who were the final team to go, competed in costumes from King Arthur’s era and were cheered on by a similarly-dressed cheering squad that included a knight in shining armor and several wenches.
Will Piper led off the Night Riders with 97 out of 100 points, followed by a perfect 100 from Josh List. Shah Quereshi added a 92 and Thomas Schwiezer received an 85 as the final rider to clinch the victory.
With the victory, the Night Riders qualified for the Championship on Feb. 19 as part of the annual Vinceremos Dinner and Benefit Auction at International Polo Club.
A record 14 teams participated in the first preliminary round in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd.
The Zoetis After Dark team of Peter Jordan (89), Joey Nolton (95), Jonathan Williams (95) and Tyler Smith (94) finished second with 373 points.
Palm Beach Forge, led by Donny Westy’s perfect 100, placed third with 357 points, while Ramrod was fourth with 344 and La Victoria Polo was fifth with 324.
Polo patrons Gillian Johnston and Maureen Brennan and superstar show jumpers Rodrigo Pessoa and Jimmy Torano were the celebrity judges.
The next Buck Off is Thursday (Feb. 4) at 6:30 p.m., also at the White Horse Fashion Cuisine. Spots are still available and anyone of any age is welcome to compete. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. However, riders under the age of 18 need a parent’s signature to secure a spot. Also, if you don’t have a full team, the “Buck Off’ crew will help find you other strays.
